single use items

Eyelash/Eyebrow Extensions are difficult to clean, consideration should be given to single-use strip in order to reduce the risk of cross contamination, and spread microbes transmission.

The images on the below are lash and brow extensions trays, which is a practice
we do not use, due to potential cross-contamination and could possibly lead to eye infections.

“To re-use an extension without considering the consequences could expose clients and staff to risks which outweigh the perceived benefits,” ULB Product Development Team.

Re-use of an extension tray can spread microbes, which can lead to eye infections. Client protection is our main concern, which is one of the main reasons why Ultimate Lash & Brow's innovative team created Single-Use Disposable Extensions strips.

Interesting Information below:
Q. Extensions harm my natural lashes – False
A. When application is applied properly, most women end up with better lashes than they had after three months. Mascara is not being worn, the follicles are clean and clear to produce a better natural lash. When extensions are applied improperly you will permanently damage your natural lashes.

Things to discuss with your therapist:
Eyelash extensions have various diameters /thicknesses. Ask your current or future therapist what diameter lash they are using. Depending on the natural health of your lashes .07mm, .10mm, .12mm, .15mm in diameter are best choice for your natural lashes. If your therapist is using .20mm or .25mm diameter (thickness) extensions and any extensions longer than 14mm, proceed with CAUTION. Ask your therapist to show you the extensions that he or she will be using for your application.
Lower Lash Extensions:
This procedure is done differently than upper lid extensions. Your eyes should be closed for this treatment. Therapist’s that are properly trained would never allow your eyes to be open and exposed to chemicals.
Caution - During your treatment, you should not feel any burning, stinging, or discomfort.  After treatment- Your eyes should not be blood shot after your lash application. If this occurs, you need to change therapists, as they may be less experienced than others or ask your therapists to change adhesive (REACH Compliant).  Blood shot eyes, burning, or stinging are caused by chemical exposure. Which can lead to chemical pinkeye, and this is not a normal result from eyelash extensions.

*(Chemical pinkeye) or toxic pinkeye is caused by getting smoke, liquids, fumes, or chemicals in the eyes.)  Adhesive that aren’t REACH compliant may contain active ingredients, which can lead to Cancer, Developmental/reproductive toxicity, Neurotoxicity, Allergies/immunotoxicity, Organ system toxicity, Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), and Occupational hazards

How to avoid eyelash extension complications:
Eyelash Extensions are not governed or regulated by State-Boards. It is an unregulated industry. Given the risks, the American Academy of Ophthalmology urges consumers to use caution if considering eyelash extensions. For consumers who choose to use eyelash extensions, the Academy offers the following advice:

1)Ensure that the aesthetician is certified, licensed and working at a reputable establishment.

2)Check that the aesthetician practices adequate hand washing and proper hygiene; including washing his or her hands thoroughly and wearing gloves.

3)Check the eyelash adhesive ingredients before use. Making sure that adhesives are made for eyelash extensions.

While the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) generally recommends that false eyelashes be applied by a professional for safety reasons, earlier this month the AAO warned consumers that even eyelash extensions from a salon may cause infections of the cornea and eyelid, as well contact dermatitis caused by an allergic reaction to the type of glue salons use. “I’m seeing more and more patients with injuries caused by extensions, some of which can threaten a woman’s vision,” explains Rebecca Taylor, MD, an ophthalmologist in Nashville, Tennessee, and a clinical spokesperson for the AAO.
Infections and allergic reactions aren’t the only problems. Another danger is the temporary or permanent loss of your natural eyelashes, which can happen if the extensions damage the lash follicle or are so heavy they put tension on the lash, causing breakage. "Eyelashes have an important function: They sweep dirt and debris away from your eyes, preserving vision", says Taylor. Losing yours temporarily is harmful enough, but if they never grow back, you set yourself up for a lifetime of eye issues.

You can lower your risk of complications by taking a few precautions.
First, hit up a reputable salon, and have the procedure done by a certified experienced aesthetician. “An inexperienced aesthetician can easily cut the eyeball or cornea,” says Taylor. Ouch. Also, a salon with an iffy reputation may not encourage staffers to wash their hands and utensils properly between customers and that can spread infection-causing microbes.

Anyone who experiences an infection, allergic reaction or other irritation from using eyelash extensions or other eye products should immediately see an ophthalmologist – a medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of eye conditions.
